Question #5

Society was very different in 1832, what difference is the most striking to you?  What do you think would be the most difficult aspect to deal with?

  1. I think the most striking and difficult thing for me to deal with would be how strict the adults are. Everything so formal that people can't be themselves.

  2. The biggest difference would have to be the electonics. If I couldn't have my iPod touch, I would go insane! The most difficult aspect would have to communicating with others and it has to be through letters, not skype.

  3. I think the biggest difference would be what is counted as disrespect back then compared to today. Like if you say "Shut up, you're joking." that is counted as normal today back then would be considered terribly rude. It shows how much society has changed over time and how different people react to different things. Another example would be if you correct a kid on their grammar, it would be annoying or make you seem smart, but to an adult it's like calling them stupid.

  4. The most striking difference is that everything is so formal and fancy. Because of that, evybody is always not who they really are, but how everybody else is. How could I survive that era if I can't be the geeky weirdo I am? That would also be difficult!!!!!!!

  5. I agree with Kassidy, but it's also true that the lack of electronics was quite important. If there was no cars, you would have to take a carriage instead. If you needed to go from England to China, then instead of taking a plane, you would have to take a boat, which would at least quadruple the voyage.

  6. being cut of from the outside would be difficult.Having no phones or email. The only thing you could do is write a letter and to get that out would take a while.

  7. I agree with Jason all the way. Without electronics, my world would be so much more complicated. For instance: Research reports back in 1832 there was no computers. We would have to look it up in an encyclopedia. Getting messages to people in 1832 would take forever. They would have to go via horse. Nowadays, all you have to do is create an email account, and send away. Also, Adina I agree with you as well. I like to express my feeling through style. I wouldn't like to dress how people tell me to or too fancy.

  8. I also agree with Jason and Louis because without technology the world would be harder like getting news, checking the weather, and like watching something funny. Also saving information on paper could get burned and if there was a lot of information to save it would take a lot of paper but, on a computer it would easier to save and have a bunch of copies if there is more than on computer to put on.

  11. I agree with Kassidy. Society has changed because in 1832 they didn't have cars or planes or cell phones. If you had to get from let's say, England to North America, you would have to take a boat, not a plane. Cars were not invented then, so they probably had carriages. They had trains too, so if you had to go far distances and you didn't have a carriage, you could buy a train ticket.

  12. Also you would have to mail letters instead of texting or talking. You would go to a friends house instead of calling them.

  13. The biggest issue i see is, going on a ship with nobody you know, and havin your two "families" not be there for you! I for one think that it is rediculos to have to take a ship with a family you have never even met, and then have them stand you up!
