Question #1

The prologue is entitled, "An Important Warning", from the very first paragraphs things are seriously wrong with the plans for Charlotte's voyage.  What potential problems do you see?

  1. One potential problem I see is that she said "the girl I once was. Another potential problem I see is that ships where not always as safe as they are now so the ship could also sink and in the old days if you where accused of murder at trial you where almost always seen guilty.

  3. I see that Charlotte is not quite accepted and is therefor the odd man out and the easy blame target.

  4. The potential problems Charlotte Doyle faced were being accused of mused at such a young age, being a completely different, young, unintelligent girl, and not knowing what type of experience lays ahead of her. Nowadays, she only wishes to have known what would happen and how she could change it.

  6. Yes maddi she would be an easy target but why would she be an easy target. Awkward people don't get accused of murder why else would she be an easy subject.

  7. One potential problem is that the ship could sink. She is a small thirteen year old on a rickety ship full of men.

  10. I see that because she is the youngest on the ship she is easily accused of doing things she didn't do. In the first paragraph she says she was accused of murder, put on trial, and found guilty. Those are not good signs. I see many things that could go wrong.

  11. From what I see is a girl named Charlotte Doyle who is being framed of murder and is on a ship that is very rickety, old ship.

  12. One potential problem I see is that Charlotte is not accepted on the ship. She is the target of blame because she is only a small girl. There is always the probability that the ship can sink. Also Charlotte is going on the ship by herself. I think that a 13 year old girl souldnt be going on a ship by herself

  13. Well, Charlotte is being accused of murder, what do you expect?

  14. I think maybe that many bad things will happen with no warning or little warning. Their may be so many bad things she needs a warning but gets none. Their may be a mixture of good and bad things that happen. I think their is so much bad she will be acused of something.

  15. I see that her porter quit after they heard that Captain Jaggery will be the captain. They searched for a new one and that person ran away with the money they gave him. Finally, she got on the boat and heard that there will be no families there and she will be the only passenger. After that, she went to her room but it turned out it will be the smallest room she has ever had. There isn't even enough room for her luggage to fit! That's why from the first chapter in the book, things are not headed good for Charlotte Doyle.

  16. One of the potential problems that I see is that a thirteen year old girl has been accused for murder and is at trial, and like Hayden said most of the time you were found guilty. Also that when she goes on the ship alone she will be without someone to protect her and the boats back then weren't as cautious and had as much security then we do now.

  17. Hayden: 1. You spelled Maddie wrong and 2. Charlotte is a young girl without a mother or father and therefor no defense. She is also the new, mysterious one.

  18. I believe that bad things are happening to Charlotte happen due to the fact that with the least amount of ability to defend herself, she would be the easiest to blame as a cover-up for the clever adult who probably committed the crime.

  19. One potential problem in my opinion would be, Charolotte Doyle is a lonely 13 year old girl with not much family there for her, Being sent to a ship all alone, and having to fight fer her right of not comitting murder.

  20. Jason: Why is that a potential problem? It is obvious but you need to just explain.

  21. I think that one of the potential problems I see is a young girl that was framed for killing someone. And the fact that she is going to trial for the case is very unlikely for the murderer to win because they are holding such a heavy trial on you hands and if you don't win, the consequences can be fatal.

  22. She is 13 and she is traveling on a ship to America and she is throughly disgusted by the ship she is sent on.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I think one problem would be that she was accused of murder. She also was placed on an old ship with a bunch of creepy, yet polite men. She also was a terrible case of sick sickness. As a result of being on the ship, she has lost touch with her inner person. She is not the same Charolette Doyle she used to be.

  24. Some problems I see is that she's only a 13 year old girl and she's on a boat that might not be that safe where she is the only girl there. She was forced onto the boat with no knowledge of it except for who the captain was, and everyone tries to avoid him for whatever reason, so he must not be that good a person. Plus, she is totally cut off from the world outside of the boat. There are no phones or computers, and she's out in the middle of the sea so no newspaper can get to her.

  25. She is only13 years old and is going on a ship to America with another family and crew filled with men.I don't think that she will feel very comfortable going on a ship like that at all when their is barely any women on the ship at all which I'm guessing that she might have some problems when on the ship.

  26. A problem I see is that she is accused of murder and she is the only one on the ship that is a girl another problem I see is that zachariah gave her the
dirk(a small dagger) and said to hide it under your mattress and I think that is how she is accused of murder and if she is the only girl on the ship they might think it was her. Last problem I see is her friend zachariah he's black so if they ask who gave you and she said zachariah then they will think that was her crime partner.

  27. One potential problem is that she is accused of murder, she is the only girl on the ship, she has no one to contact in any way,has someone she doesn't even know trying to be friends with, and going to trial for murdering someone and found guilty. So she is having a really hard and bad time on that ship.

    ReplyDelete
  28. one of the biggest problems was that in the warning in the front of the book there it says that she was accused of murder .she is also terrified of the fact that she has to travel alone with a bunch of men and she also doesn't like the boat either because it states on p.12 on para.3 ...or perhaps it was smaller and older than I had anticipated ...

    ReplyDelete
  29. Okay, Rockstar......
I like the way you are making predictions based on the evidence from the text. I am very curious why Zachariah's skin color would make him an automatic accomplice in crime? In addition, why is she more likely to be accused if she is female? Can you elaborate?

  31. Before she even went on the ship there were signs of potential problems.I can already tell her being the only girl or passenger at that would cause chaos. She is only 13 and is cut off to the outside world. Charlotte has no gardian with and no one to protect her. Before she goes on the ship people that they meet don't want anything to do with captain Jaggery which means more problems.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Lucia, how do you know that Charolette is the only girl on the ship? Isn't there other passengers that are strangers to us?

    ReplyDelete
  33. I see many potential problems. The fact that the captain seems too calm, plus the terrified ranting porters, provides the conclusion that the captain is a Sociopath. This is a very large problem, as Sociopaths are generally unpredictable, insane, and murderous.

    ReplyDelete
  34. A potential problem I see is that Charlotte is on a boat full of odd, suspicious men. Two of the porters quit after they heard that Captain Jaggery was going to be sailing the boat. She is sailing on a boat to America without a parent/guardian, and only 13. She is accused of murder and found guilty.

    ReplyDelete
  35. A potential problem I see is that charlotte is 13 sand accused of murder.I think she is accused of murder because zachariah gave her a dirk (a small dagger.).

    ReplyDelete
  36. That is much more than a potential problem, Latif!! Why would Zachariah's dirk cause her accusation? No one but him knows she has this item hidden.
