I think that she trusts the captain because she doesn't think he is as bad as everyone describes him. I would at least give him a chance.I think she trusted Zachariah unwisely because he could of gave her the dirk because he might of murdered somebody ,and wants to make it look like Charolette did it.
Charlotte chooses to trust Captain Jaggery because when she visited him for tea for the first time in a while she had been treated in the fashion she had been taught in. She had also chosen to trust Zachariah because he had been kind to Charlotte when she first arrived. But when Zachariah told her of the captain's cruelty she decides not to trust him because she believes that Captain Jaggery is a gentle man.
I think she trusts Captain Jaggery because he acted polite and civil while having tea with her. Not only that but because she might think that he's a man of class unlike most of the crew, because on page 44, paragraph 5 it says, "It's not often I have a person of cultivation-like you- aboard my ship to notice. I fear a crew such as mine has little liking for good taste or, alas, order. It offends them," and on page 44, paragraph 2, it says, "Thank you" I said, thrilled to be treated in this ladylike fashion."
Lauren, You have some very strong support for your statement which makes your response stand well on it's own. Do you think that Captain Jaggery is as dangerous as he is made to seem or do you think the crew is just so different from him they lack understanding?
Charlotte trusted Zachariah unwisely. She took the knife and befriended him when she didn't know much about him. Trusting Captain Jaggery was wise because ,to her, he is the only one who is like her. He was raised a gentleman and Charlotte was raised to trust gentlemen.
Charlotte trusts Captain Jaggery because there is no one else to trust. I think she likes the idea that he has authority. Her father let her down by having her on the bad ship.
She chooses to trust the captain because he is the captian and he is taking her to America. She trusted Zachariah unwisely because he gave her the dirk that he may of used it to murder someone and then gave it to Charlotte to mask her for the murder.
Charlotte trusts the captain because he is the only one that she can really trust on a ship full of strange people. If I was Charlotte then I would only trust the captain because he drives the ship and is in charge of every one so he has to be there for her. I think that she has chosen unwisley with being friends with Zachariah because if he gave me a knife and said to defend my self I would probably take an emergency boat and row back to shore.
Charlotte trusts the Captain because he is in a position of authority. Everyone, from a young age, ha sheen taught to trust people like that. Those people include teachers, officers, and captains. She also trusts him because she has no one else to go to, even though Zachariah tells her he is there to help. She also trusts her father, which can be unwise because he sent her to the ships, which is a horrible place for a youg lady to be in. Another person is herself- she isn't going with her gut feelings, just whatever people tell her to do instead of doing what she know is right .
Charlotte trusts Captain Jaggery because after she was handed the knife she could not trust anyone, even the man that handed her the knife. And because nothing had happened (as far as she knows) to the ship crew or the ship itself, she has nowhere to go. She doesn't trust Zachariah because though they have somewhat stuck together the whole trip, she does not know exactly him himself.
I believe that Charlotte befriended the captain because she is used to the higher class of people, so the fancy dress, kindness, and politeness is a frail reminder of the world that she left back in Liverpool, which she enjoyed very much. I believe that trusting the crew is a bad idea, because they look upon her as on would with a bug: small, insignificant, and defenseless. I believe that they will do something horrible to her to remind her that she is not the top class on the Sea Hawk.
Charlotte I think chose to trust the captain be cause he is head in command. Plus you're on a boat in the middle of the ocean so you probably don't want to get on his bad side.
I think that she should trust the captin because he is being very polite and nice and he also invited her for tea and inviting some one to tea was not weird because this is still back then and also they are coming from england where inviting some one for tea is just a way they have fun
I think charlotte chose to trust the captain because he appeared very suave, and she was treated proper. I don't think it was a smart idea to trust Captain Jaggery, I think this because she trusted him after one tea party. You can't get to know someone in an hour. Captain Jaggery might be a mass murderer for all she knows. Captain Jaggery might be being nice to her just to deceive her. Look at the way he is treating the crew. Yes, he does it to get respect, but he doesn't have to be that harsh! I don't think she has trusted anyone else unwisely besides Captain Jaggery.
Charlotte chooses to trust Captain Jaggery because when she was invited to drink tea with the Captain the Captain treated her very good. She had trusted Zachariah but since he gave her a dirk he could have murdered someone and they would think that Charlotte had done it because she had the dirk. To summarize she chooses to trust Captain Jaggery because he treated her good and not Zachariah because he will probably prove her guilty.
Page 46 paragraph 2 said ''I'm sure, sir",I said thinking back to all Zachariah had told me.The captain's behavior at tea was proof enough-for me-of his true goodness".Which tells me the captains behavior at tea made her think that he was a gentleman. That gave her a reason to trust him and believe he wasn't such a bad man.
I think that just because Captain Jaggery is a captain and therefor has a position of authority, Charlotte feels like she has no choice but to trust him. He is also and adult, and s has been taught to respect adults. Charlotte has also unwisely trusted Zichariach just because he has faith in her and gave her the dirk.
Charolotte trusts the captain because he has shown manly effort and has complemented her to try and get in good, while having tea. When you are all alone on this big ship when you have no one to rely on, most of the time you lean on the ones that at first seem you can trust or act nice towards your way. She has learned to trust Zachariah but when he tells her something unlike her belief over Captain Jagger, then she gets mixed feelings about Zachariah.
Ms. Adams, Personally I wouldn't trust anyone, but speaking for Charlottes choices, I don't think the crew members like him because he acts civil and is a man of class and appreciates good taste, and like he said in the book and I said in my last post, he said that good taste offends them.
Charlotte trusts the Captain because the captain is in a line of authority. He drives the boat and tells everyone what to do. So you have to assume that he is a good guy. Also she is on a boat with complete strangers so, there is pretty much almost no one else to trusts. I think that Charlotte made an unwisely decision being friends with Zachariah because if he gives me a knife and tells me it is to defend myself I would freak out knowing that there is someone out to get me.
I think Charlotte Doyle trusts Captain Jaggery because of his high authority on the ship is what she is used to and believes is what she deserves. I think she also trusts the captain because her father would never leave her with a man he didn't trust so she trusts a man her father believes is reliable. An unwise decision was to trust Zachariah in a slight manner. This man could have given her the dirk so he could harm her since he is the only one that knows she has the dirk and the dirks location. He may have also given Charlotte the dirk for the reason he stated.
She decides to trust Captain Jaggery because he is in a position of authority and was hired by her father so he must be good. Charlotte wrongly trusted Zachariah because he gave her the knife that he murdered someone with.
She trusts Captain Jaggery because he knows where everything is and her father hired him so she might think he is trustworthy enough to help her and she also trusted Zachariah but he gave her the dirk and she doesn't know what he has done with it and that is mistake she probably did make.
Thomas, Charlotte's dad might've not known Captain Jaggery that well. Captain Jaggery could've convinced the Charlotte's dad or deceived Charlotte's dad.
Adina i would also think that too i would either think zachariah or captin jaggey would be the murders because they are the only other people that know about the dirk including charlotte
Good point Madison. Given that the captain is an authority figure Charlotte's upbringing tells her he is the one to trust. Does being in a position of authority make you trustworthy?
Charlotte has chosen to trust the captain because he is of her class, he seems nice, he is the captain, and she has to because her father had arranged everything and she trusts her father. I think she trusts everyone on the ship because she trusts that her father has done the best he can to make the best out of the ship.
