How did you react when you read Mr. Doyle's assessment of the "unnatural" tales and disgraceful spelling in Charlotte's journal? Since Charlotte was not allowed to answer her father, how do you think she felt? What did her father miss?
I felt that her father was exactly like Captain Jaggery, cruel and unfair. Captain Jaggery also said the same thing and they both seem the same. I think it was unfair for Charlotte not answer her father or get to even explain which makes me sure that her father is EXACTLY the same as Captain Jaggery. She probably felt like she was on the ship again and Captain Jaggery was the captain and she was one of the crew members.
I believe that she thinks that he is just like Jaggery. He believes that you should always respect your elders, no matter how cruel they are. He thinks that by speaking out at her better, she disgraced the family and it's honor.
I didn't really react because i would figure she would forget how to spell and things in that nature because she was on a ship for 2 months. I think she felt like a caged animal, basically. he never let her SAY anything . He basically always got what he wanted, even though he is her father. Her father missed how the whole entire thing happened on the ship and he wouldnt believe her or let her say ANYTHING!!!!!!!!!,!
I feel that Charlotte's father was being completely rude, and like everybody else said he was acting exactly like Captain Jaggery. Also the fact Charlotte didn't get to reply to her father is just flat out messed up. Charlotte had just been on a 2 month ride with a bunch of random people that Mr. Doyle had set her up with and that's how you decide to treat your own daughter.
She probobly feels like her father is like Captain Jaggery and they don't think she has the right to express her opinion and that she has to respect people older than her.

ReplyDeleteI agree with Maria, both Captain Jagg and her father are cruel. They both thought Charlotte was being unnatural when she was just being herself.
