Question #5

What did Zachariah mean by the following speech:

A sailor chooses the wind that takes the ship from safe port. Ah, yes, but once you're abroad, as you have seen, winds have a mind of their own. Be careful Charlotte, careful of the wind you choose.

  1. I think it meant that Charlotte's father chose what ship his daughter would sail on but once you're on it and on the ocean, everyone has a mind of their own on what to do. So Charlotte should be careful on which ship she chooses to go on. It represents the moral/lesson of this whole story.

  2. I think that Zachariah meant to follow your heart, no matter what other people tell you to do. This means that even if Charlotte's father disagrees with her choice of becoming a sailor, that does not matter because the ocean is where she belongs. In other words, never give up hope and what you want will always be with you.

  3. Choose carefully in what path you take in life. After you choose your path, life will blow you in any direction it feels like, you just need to fight back and follow what you believe in.
