ReplyDeleteI think she kept the dirk because she was warned by both Zachariah and captain Jaggery to keep the dirk.also i think she didn't tell captain Jaggery about her adventure in the hold because he would get worried, upset,or mad at Charlotte.

ReplyDeleteI agree with Latif. I think she didn't tell Captain Jaggery about the hold because, like everyone else, she would be afraid that he would get mad at her. She was also warned not to go down there, so she knew not to. About the dirk, I think that after the encounter in the hold she decided it was useful since she had the dirk in that situation and used it to protect her.
ReplyDeleteI think she has a bad position because she has lied and had not made many trusting friends like Zachariah when she was given the dirk page25 paragraph 3 that must mean that she was accused of murder and like when she went to the hole when Keetch told her not to. She probably chose to keep the dirk to protect herself like when she was in the hole she had seen a face in the carving and she toke out her dirk to protect her self on page 60 paragraph 2
ReplyDeleteI think that Charolotte is putting herself in this position because she is beginning to "un-trust" Captain Jaggery. I am happy that Charolotte has finally come to her senses. Another reason is that she is scared she will get in trouble. She might think this because the dirk is a dangerous weapon that can kill. I have a strong feeling that that exact dirk was used in the murder. She is hiding the "adventure" she had because she is afraid that Captain Jaggery will conduct some sort of search for the stowaway, which might end up on the murder or other serious injury/crime. Being that lady that she is, she would hate to see any type of gore near her. All in all, Charolotte feels that it is her duty to protect the crew, who are finally starting to grow on her as friends (excluding Capain Jaggery:{))
ReplyDeleteI believe that she kept the dirk because it was the only thing that could guarantee her safety on a ship with people she does not know, at a place that she is not comfortable with. I believe that she did not tell Captain Jaggery about the "adventure" in the hold because she did not want the captain to over react about it and take out his anger and vengeance on one of the unsuspecting members of the crew.
ReplyDeleteI think that Charrlote is in a very tight situation because she had lied to many and she doesn't have a friend reliable enough to tell, and if captain Jaggery for some reason does find out, she is in more trouble than she thinks but worst if all, she is risking her trust, and because she is not really what you'd call a "member" of the ship.
ReplyDeleteshe wants to find out more about what's going on and if she tells captian Jaggery she may never find out and she will get in trouble for going in the hold where she saw that the dirk is very useful when in needs of protection.
ReplyDeleteI think that Charlotte is putting herself in that position because she is beginning to not trust Captain Jaggery anymore. Finally Charlotte is coming to her sences. Also Charlotte is scared that she will get in trouble if she tells him about it. She thinks that because a dirk is a dangerous weapon and children should not have that in there possession. A reason she didn't tell Captain Jaggery about her adventure in the hold becuase she was afraid that he would get worried about her safety or get mad at her for being down there.

ReplyDeleteI think that Charlotte kept the dirk because like, Ryan said, it was one of her only ways for safety on the ship. She didn't know anyone so she had to keep the dirk because if she didn't and she got into a horrible fight she could get hurt or worse. I think that the reason that she didn't tell Captain Jaggery about the *adventure* in the hold was because if she did he might of gotten extremely mad and took his anger out on another member.
ReplyDeleteMaddie, why did you remove your post?
ReplyDeleteI think that she kept the dirk because it was the only safe thing she had on the ship that she could trust. I also think she did not tell Captain Jaggery that she went in the brig because he will probably get mad because she was warned not to go in there
ReplyDeleteI agree with Adina, I also think Charlotte is beginning to lose trust in Captain Jaggery.
ReplyDeleteI think that Charlotte choose to keep the dirk because helped guarantee her safety on the ship. She didn't want to tell Captain Jaggery about the trip to the hold because she didn't want to make a big fuss over it.
ReplyDeleteI think Charlotte is keeping the dirk because she has finally began to realize what is happening. She is the only lady on the ship and the only passenger. She does not know or really trust someone. So her only weapon if something happens is the dirk. But, that dirk might be the one responsible for the murder that happens later in the book. When she doesn't give the dirk to Captain Jaggery, she will uncover more about what is happening which I think she wants to do. Charlotte did not tell the Captain about the adventure because she does not want to get involved in any drama and she doesn't want anyone to get hurt. All she is doing is trying to get through the voyage so she can go to her father.
ReplyDeleteWell, she kept the dirk. She was supposed to. She didn't tell anybody. Maybe she doesn't trust certain people. Maybe the captain would have gotten mad about her little adventure.
ReplyDeleteI think she as she is on the ship more and more, she trust the crew more and more. When the crew tell her stories about Captain Jaggery, her trust fades away from him.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Lauren and Latif she was influenced by Captain Jaggery and Zachariah to keep the dirk. She didn't tell Captain Jaggery about her adventure in the hold because she could be afraid that he would get upset with her.
ReplyDeleteRyan~ What punishments do you think would happen to the crew if Captain Jaggery found out about the "adventure?"
ReplyDeleteCharalotte doesnt tell Captain Jaggery about the adventure she had in the hold because the book states that she decided not to tell because he would think she was childlike or indefensive for herself. She keeps the Dirk because may people have unusually warned her about the dangers on the ship... With warnings she convinces herself to hide it under he mattress and then she will eventually forget about it.
ReplyDeleteRyan- Why do you think the dirk is the only thing that can guarantee her safety on the ship?
ReplyDeleteI agree with Latif also since if she told Captain Jaggery he might get mad, sad, or upset just like Latif had said and Zachariah plus Captain Jaggery warned her to keep the dirk. She is probably a little worried about that somebody was knowing that she was going down in the hold and she isn't very happy with position she is in right now.I think that Charlotte isn't having the best voyage right now since what has happened so far and what she has done in the story as I see it so far and that is my guess that what is happened to her at this point of view. Also the dirk is her protection so she will use it more often or a little less I guess what she would do with it.
ReplyDeleteI think Charlotte chose not to tell Captain Jaggery because on page 64 paragraph 3 it says ,"If I was to go to the captain with such a tale he would think me a sorry, troublesome child. That was the last thing I desired."She decided to keep the dirk because she thought she could she could use it to defend herself because of the constant reminders of the captains cruelty. She had resolved to throw it into the ocean but she thinks she might have use for it because of the incident in the hold she then decided to leave it under her mattress hoping she'll forget.
ReplyDeleteShe is placing herself in this position because she basically needed the dirk incase something bad happened. She didn't tell Captain Jaggery because she feared that he might do something horrible to her because she is not allowed in the hold
