Question #2

Of all the men on the ship, who could have placed the carved head in the hold? Why do you really think the head was placed there?

  1. I think that Mr.Barlow carved and put the fake head in the hold.I think that because he warned her not to go in the hold.So Mr.Barlow probably thought Charlotte would go down the hold because he told her not to go down so he put the fake head in the hold to warn her that she should listen to what he is telling her.

  2. I think the head was placed there for numerous different reasons, one of those reasons could be to frighten unwanted visitors. She was told not to go in the hold as it says on page 58 paragraph 2 .Maybe Mr.Barlow placed it there to scare her so she would be to frightened to ever go back to the hold. One thing I do know is that Mr.Barlow knows whats down there in the hold.If I was her I would admit I went in the hold and ask for an explanation for the head.

  4. I do not agree with you latif, because I think that Barlow was warning her about the man who had put the carving there, because if he had wanted her to stay out of the hold, he would've just made the experience as short as possible. However, it is possible that he pinched the candle, letting a second person set up the carving under the cover of darkness. But, I do agree with the fact that whoever set up the carving meant to scare her away from the hold.

  5. I agree with Latif. Mr. Barlow was the one that warned her not to go down there, and most people know that when you tell someone what to do or what not to do, be it a child or even an adult, they will do the exact opposite. Since he knew that she would go down there, ignoring his warning, he decided to scare her using the head so that she wouldn't go down there again.

  6. Mr. Barlow could have put the head in the hold because he was the one in charge of the luggage that went down there. Since he was the only one who was allowed or had access to the hold, he HAD to be the one to put a wooden head. If Charolotte had gone with someone else, such as Zachariah, I don't think that something as intense as a scare like that would have happened. I also think that Mr. Barlow did it because Captain Jaggy trusts him, and I believe that anyone who is an ally of him should NEVER be trusted!!!!

  7. I agree with Latif because if anyone were to put the unreal head in the hold it would by all means be Mr. Barlow because he's the one that told charrlotte to go down there in the first place. It would not make sense for anyone else to do because not one of them had mentioned it in a suspicious form, yet.....

  8. I also think that Mr.Barlow had put the carved head down there since on page 52 at the bottom of the page Mr.Barlow says "You don't want to go down to the hold." I looked beneath me and saw that ladder continued into what appeared to be a black pit. "More cargo," he explained laconically. "Rats and roaches too. And a foul bilge. That's where the brig is."

  9. I believe that Mr. Barlow put the head in the hold since he was the one with Charlotte. Perhaps he put it there to warn her of something that is going to happen later so she could be ready or he wanted to scare her so she would keep the Dirk. Either way she should be very suspicious when it comes to the crew and captain for it could mean life or death if you place your trust in the wrong person.

  10. I believe that Mr. Barlow put the head down there so that people who go down there will be scared and never go down there again.

  11. I think that it was a head of a dead body, all hard and stuff. I think that some one from the big escaped and that is why everyone is freaked out of the ship.

  12. I agree with Ryan, because Mr. Barlow was warning Charlotte about the man that put the fake head carving there. Mr. Barlow warned Charlotte because he knew that she would go down there, but whoever put the head carving there, I think, was trying to scare her away.

  13. I think that Mr. Barow placed the fake head there to warn off un-wanted visitors on the ship. Lets say that a stowaway comes on the ship and goes down into the hold and gets scared out because of the fake head there. Also Mr. Barrow was in charge of the luggage in the hold so he would have all the time in the world to carve a fake head and place it in there. Another reason was that Mr. Barrow told Charlotte not to go down into the hold because maybe there is something down there that he doesn't want her to know about.

  14. I agree with Lauren. I think he knew that Charlotte would go down to the hold even though he said not to.

  15. Since Mr. Barlow warned her about going in i think he either is making something go on, or it is their to scare her. Maybe he knows that someone else is hiding secerets that he likes, therefor he is trying to protect the passengers from knowing.

  16. I think the head was really placed there because the Captain is up to something.. I am not sure what but something in my gut makes me want to point fingers at him!

  17. I think that Mr. Barlow is hiding something down there ,probably a dead person, and he does not want her to go down so he told her not to go down expecting her to actually to go down and scare her and make her not even want to go down there. or I think that he might be helping some one protect something that is down there.

  18. I'm guessing Mr. Barlow placed the head there because he wanted to keep un-wanted visitors out of the hold. Also, I'm guessing that he's hiding a big secret in there... hopefully not though...
