That indicates that Charolotte has changed because she is now more comfortable around the crew and she is now even braver. She was able to go into the sailor's private quarters and get the needle. Because she was allowed in there, the sailors are beginning to trust her, even though she did some horrible things, such as being the captain's "spy." She is braver because after her little "adventure" in the storage area, thought that she would go down stairs only for her cabin, but she went down a hallway she has never been down before, as a new Charlotte; a braver, more courageous one, mind you.
I think Charlotte was fond of Ewing. Charlotte says on page 76, Paragraph 2 "I was on the forecastle deck with Ewing. Ewing was a young, blond Scot- handsome, I thought-with a shocking tattoo of a mermaid upon his arm. That and his Aberdeen sweet, about whom he loved to talk fascinated me." I think since she was fond of Ewing, she wanted to do something nice for him. When she saw that the needle broke I think she thought it was the perfect opportunity to do something nice for him so he would see that she is somewhat of a sweet heart
I think it shows that Charlotte is becoming more of a sailor. I say that because before Charlotte got on the Seahawk she would not volunteer to get Ewing's needle for him.
I believe that this means that she has made the difference between her beginning character and her new character. The new character is less patronizing and condescending, and more helpful and useful. She now sees the sailors as equals, and although she does not do their blunt labor, she has the kindness to do small favors and errands, like when she went and got a new needle for Ewing.
I think Charlotte is becoming more comfortable with the crew. Because when she got on the Seahawk in the beginning, she wanted nothing to do with the dirty sailors. But knowing that she would be on the Seahawk for a long time makes her sort of have to feel more comfortable with the crew. Because if she just kept trying to avoid contact with the crew, it just wouldn't work out because a ship is like a city, it needs teamwork to thrive.
Charlotte has changed into a helpful women. When she was first on the ship, she imagined herself with a bunch of dirty rats. Now she knows that these "dirty rats" are equals.
i think that indicates that Charlotte has changed since the beginning. She now feels comfortable with herself and with the crew. She feels like she is with them and wants to help because she is confident. She is also brave and helpful. All of her changes are owed to the crew because if they didn't accept her, she would have never felt that they trusted her and she wouldn't have ever helped. If she didn't help, the whole story would be different.
I agree with Ryan, I think that there is change between charlotte's old character and new character. Now she is turning into kind of a more sailor type character she is now becoming more useful and wanted. Charlotte is becoming more comfortable on the ship and also with the crew.
It shows that she feels more comfortable with the crew and she is ready to try and help the crew do their minor errands. It also shows that she is braver now because she went into the crews quarters and she had never dared venture in their before.

ReplyDeleteSara, what type of teamwork do you think that sailors endure everyday?
